The youth served at Jovenes are important building blocks for the future of our society. We connect them with educational and employment opportunities that prepare them to enter the workforce and embark on sustainable careers. Through the Employment & Education Preparation Program, youth are encouraged and supported as they make commitments to improving their future through education and employment. From day one, we work with our youth to develop an employment schedule, and then focus on supplementing their first jobs with vocational and occupational training.
Our Employment Counselor helps our youth navigate the world of work by assisting with resume preparation, online job searches, and transportation to interviews. We educate our youth on all the options available to them by scheduling field trips to local vocational/occupational training centers and colleges, and provide tutors to help youth become proficient in basic educational areas such as math and English as they work to obtain their GED’s and diploma’s.
Once youth begin working, they learn how to manage their finances and begin saving for when they live on their own. At Jovenes, building a foundation of education and employment is critical for our youth’s long term success. Youth experiencing homelessness have to work twice as hard as their peers in order to gain stability and thrive. One of the ways we impact our youth is instilling a mindset where they are constantly pushing themselves to work hard, plan ahead, and become successful.
