Transforming Lives, One Goal at a Time
Street Soccer LA targets homeless youth between the ages of 18-24. Street Soccer is a growing international movement that uses sports as an effective tool to combat homelessness. At Jovenes, we conduct outreach and practice at different parks throughout Boyle Heights in order to increase the number of homeless youth who are accessing available housing and supportive services, and to motivate the our current residents to continue setting and reaching their goals. Practices are held every Sunday (with no cost to participants), and is a year-round program in which 60 youth participate. This is an opportunity for us to integrate at-risk youth with other individuals, agencies, and soccer clubs that provide a positive and lasting experience for all participants.
Street Soccer LA concentrates on building up to the Street Soccer USA Cup in Washington DC. In this yearly tournament has over 20 teams competing from across the country. The Jovenes team represents the city of Los Angeles, and we have never come in below 4th place during our three years of participation. In addition, five of our youth have gone on to play in the Homeless World Cup, which has taken place in Australia, Italy, and Brazil. These are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for our youth, providing them with an experience that leaves a lasting and inspiring impact. We Set Goals. We Score Goals.
